My name is Rob, and I'm the founder of Travel2Aus. I'm Irish - originally from Kildare - and I moved to Australia a few years ago with a backpack, a one-way ticket, and absolutely no idea what I was getting myself into. What followed was one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life, and I haven't really stopped talking about it since.
I spent time working my way up the East Coast - from Sydney all the way to Cairns, with every stop in between. I sailed the Whitsundays, snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef, explored Fraser Island, surfed Byron Bay, and did things I never thought I'd tick off in a lifetime. And somewhere along the way, I realised something: most travellers were doing it wrong. Not through any fault of their own - they just didn't have the right information.

Why I started Travel2Aus
The problem wasn't a lack of desire or budget - it was a lack of direction. Travellers were spending hours on Google, booking things piecemeal, paying full price for experiences they could have gotten at a fraction of the cost with the right contact. They were missing hidden gems because nobody had told them about them. They were rushing places they should have lingered, and breezing past spots that deserved an entire day.
I'd been the person people came to for advice. Friends, friends of friends, people I met in hostels - "Rob, we're heading to Airlie Beach, what should we do?" And I'd sit down with them and map it all out. The best sailing trip for their group size. The tours worth every cent. The ones to skip. How to do it in a week versus a month. I was doing it for free out of pure love for the place.
Eventually it became obvious: this should be a business. Not to make travel more complicated or expensive, but to make it genuinely better - and cheaper - for the people doing it. Travel2Aus was born from that exact idea.

My passion for this place
I'll be honest with you - I could talk about the East Coast all day. The Whitsundays still gives me goosebumps. Every time I look at photos of Whitehaven Beach, or Hill Inlet from the lookout, I feel the same thing I felt the very first time I saw it. There is nowhere else in the world quite like it. And that's just one stop on a coastline that runs for thousands of kilometres of pure wonder.
What drives me most is watching customers come back having had the trip of their lives. The messages I get - "Rob, that was the best three weeks of my life," or "I can't believe we fit all of that in" - that's what this is all about. Helping people see the world properly. Not a tourist checklist version of it, but the real, deep, unforgettable version.
